The Emperor Motion Picture, Bona Film Group released modern war epic OPERATION RED SEA in 11 short days during the Spring Festival period made over 2.3 billion yuan in the Mainland. Emperor yesterday held a celebration and Hong Kong premiere. As OPERATION RED SEA headed toward 4 billion yuan RMB at the box office, boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing first had to thank "Devil Director" Dante Lam Chiu Yin. He called him the soul of the film and praised his willingness to take risk at work. Even if he would ask for a bonus, Mr. Yeung would feel he would deserve it!

Yesterday at the OPERATION RED SEA premiere were Emperor group chief Dr. Yeung Sau Sing, Bona film group founder and CEO Yu Dong, RED director Lam Chiu Yin, producer Leung Fung Ying, actors Zhang Yi, Huang Jingyu, Du Jiang, Jiang Luxia, Wang Yutian, Yin Fang, Henry Mak, Jacky Cai Jie, Huang Fenfen. Guests included director Andrew Lau Wai Keung, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi), Deep Ng Ho Hong, Money Lo Man Yi and her husband Suen King On.

OPERATION RED SEA already made over 2.3 billion at the Mainland box office. A ice sculpture of the number 23 was at the celebration for the ice breaking ceremony as well as a champagne toast for the film to continue to reach new heights at the box office as it headed toward 4 billion RMB. In Hong Kong the film will officially open on March 1st.

Yeung Sau Sing said, "OPERATION RED SEA has been a box office hit in the Mainland and also received good reviews across the board. I have been very fortunate to invest in this film. I thank boss Yu Dong for working with me, at the same time I first have to thank director Lam Chiu Yin. He is the soul of the film. For this 'Devil Director's' productions bruises and scraps, broken bones and hospitalizations are inevitable. Even though working on his film is very tough, many actors want to offer their services. The film is about the Chinese navy. This time we received the Moroccan military's assistance with the military equipment shoot. I hope everyone can sense the sincerity of the production and at the same time feel the beautiful feeling of the nation's strength. I hope the box office will continue to climb."

Yu Dong thanked boss Yeung Sau Sing and director Lam Chiu Yin. The film production took 9 months, from the Lunar New Year's Day release to the Lunar 11th its box office reached 2.3 billion yuan RMB -- doubling Lam Chiu Yin's previous film OPERATION MEKONG and its 1.1 billion take as it hoped to head toward 4 billion.

Yeung Sau Sing said, "I am very pleased with the current performance. I believe it will pass 3 billion this Sunday and definitely will have a chance at 3.5 billion." As for its category III rating, Mr. Yeung stated that it probably will affect the box office. However this film is rather attractive, with all the stimulations and gore the category III rating was expected. Lam Chiu Yin said that his "Devil Director" nicknamed was Mr. Yeung forced. Mr. Yeung joked, "That's right, I constantly rushed him. He takes a lot of risks at work. Earlier in Morocco he was injured and bleeding when shooting a car chase. Just like Jackie Chan's last injury I thought he was going to die. With the film's success, Lam Chiu Yin has asked for a bonus. If Yu Dong agrees then I feel he deserves it. This movie indeed has made a lot of money." Finally he revealed that Emperor Motion Pictures in June or July will release the Chow Yun Fat and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG). Next month it will start production on another new film by director Alan Mak Siu Fai with stars Karena Lam Ka Yun, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Sean Lau Ching wan.

Nicknamed "Devil Director", Lam Chiu Yin said, "Everyone is just joking around. This name came from Cheung Ka Fai." With the success of the film, Lam Chiu Yin felt that asking for a bonus was very normal. "I have slaved away like a mule for so many years, the money saved would be like a pension." He also revealed how he was injured. "During the shoot I am used to walking around. That day on the Jeep I was responsible for driving and giving directions with a gun. After the shoot on the way back I turned too fast and flipped the vehicle. The female assistant director in the vehicle injured her face on the gun in my hand and I busted my head open. I immediately looked for the emergency medical treatment for the female assistant director. In order to avoid affecting the progress of the shoot I stopped the bleeding and kept working. Only after I returned to Hong Kong did I realize that I had fractured dislocation and had to continue treatment. (Would you be more careful from now on?) That's how my personality is, an action film production has to be charge ahead to be entertaining."

Playing the captain in the film, Zhang Yi felt that Hong Kong friends were very loving, very understanding and very supportive of film. With his military experience he stated that Director Lam was especially demanding of him. As for being the "Devil Director", he agreed. "That's right, he is strict with actors just as he is strict with himself. He is also very demanding. During the shoot he takes a lot of risks. He flipped his car and was hurt. His head was busted open, I was scared silly but he insisted on keeping shooting."

Huang Jingyu was elated with the box office success and hoped that everyone would continue to pay attention and recognize the film. As for injury during the shoot, he said, "A lot of explosion scenes left a lot of 'remains', so they were very dangerous. After each time I had a few more wounds. I have studied Jujutsu, and my left leg and kneecap would easily swell from crawling too hard." As for the "Devil Director" title of Lam Chiu Yin, Huang Jingyu felt that he was not mean at all. He was very even tempered when he spoke, he was just serious at work and very demanding of each shot. He wanted the best. "Maybe in the eyes of others he is very exaggerated, I think he is fine. Only from being serious would good movies be made, and actors would give spot on performances."

Wai Sze Nga and Chan Ka Lok attended the premiere. Sze Nga has not had the chance to work with director Lam Chiu Yin, but he reminded her of something memorable. "When I first got into the business, I attended a party and my back caught fire. At the time Chan Ka Lok picked up a seemingly alcoholic beverage and wanted to pour it on the fire to put it out. At the time I calmly stopped him. Later after Lam Chiu Yin found out he praised my agility and would like to work with me in the future. Unfortunately he hasn't so far, so later when I have a chance I would remind him again. Don't let my appearance fool you, actually I really want to try war films with guns."

The film CONCERTO OF THE BULLY (DAI LOK SI WAI OI PUI LOK) two nights aog held its premiere. Attending actors included Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling, Philip Keung Ho Man and Michael Ning (Bak Ji). Cheng Chung Kei and his wife spoke to the media. He was nominated for Best Actor and Best Original Film Song with the film. Cheng Chung Kei said that in the past he was nominated for Original Song but lost. This time he would personally win back what he lost. However for his first Best Actor nomination he believed that he probably would not be so lucky. He would have to be nominated a few times before having a chance. Why would he lack confidence in himself? He said that because every opponent was strong.

As the award presentation grew closer, Cheng Chung Kei admitted that he started to be nervous. Even though he was used to hosting, he was particularly scared and stressed as the Hong Kong Film Award host. However this year he could sit in the audience and enjoy, only for now he still did not know whether they would have a lot of pressure. His wife comforted him, "The first nomination is just to collect experience!" Did he want to hit it a first try? Cheng Chung Kei thought that reporters refer to him having another child. His wife smiled and nodded. Reporters joked that he would hit it at first try on the baby after winning the Best Actor. Cheng Chung Kei looked at his wife in shock, "You are nodding now? You said no before!"

Chau Sau Na was nominated for the Best Actress Hong Kong Film Award with 29+1. Sister Na felt that she was more than lucky to be nominated, which was also incredible. Thus the nomination was already a victory for her. With her 10th anniversary in the business it was very memorable. Sister Na said that she has begun to pick out what she would wear. Earlier when she went to Japan she pigged out, she had to get into shape to be at her best.

The Carina Lau Ka Ling, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Natalie Tong Sze Wing, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Louis Mak Ming Sze and William Hu (Wu Wai Hong) starred Lunar New Year film A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT (NGOR DIK CHING DIK NUI SAI) broke HK$ 15 million at the box office. Two nights ago they attended the celebration with "Lo Hei" in hopes of even better box office performance. Brother Wa even suggested for a Lunar New Year again next year. He would not mind producing it and take everyone around the world for the shoot.

Brother Wa admitted that around the world flights were cheaper now. Ka Ling also hoped to work and play, and said that she had both chemistry and sense of security from working with Brother Wa. As long as the director asks her she would be willing to keep celebrating the Lunar New Year with the audience every year. As for whether she would have to wait another 25 years before working with Brother Wa again, Ka Ling said no need to because she would 80 in another 20 some years.

Some said that Ka Ling's BEAUTIFUL was funnier than her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai's MONSTER HUNT 2. She said, "People on my hike told me that it was very entertaining. Maybe our movies has Hong Kong emotions. Different places have different needs. Wai Jai's meets the Mainland and children's taste. He can coax the children." Ka Ling even rebutted to her husband's comedy performance being better than hers. "This time I proved it to him." Brother Wa revealed that at the premiere night, her daughter snuck in and watched it with him. He said, "My past movies are mostly hardcore, this time BEAUTIFUL is for the entire family. It was the first time I watched a movie with my daughter and it was a lot of fun." Tong Sze Wing said that she has already seen it twice, once at the premiere and once with her father. She said, "Papa watched all the Lunar New Year films and said that mine was the best." Just crowned television Best Actress, Sze Wing felt that making the Lunar New Year film brought her luck and hoped to be able to keep participating next year.

Wu Wai Hong's former Little Tiger Team band mate Lam Lei earlier had intestinal surgery. He said that when Lam learned of his illness he called him right away. Wu Wai Hong said, "I am an optimistic person, so I am not too worried. Even the cold and the flu can kill, and cancer may not be fatal. He too has a lot of positive energy, telling me that I don't need to keep him company at the hospital. He was afraid that it would become high profile." Wu Wai Hong also praised Lam Lai's passion for the stage. Soon after the operation he performed at his and Michael Lai Siu Tin's concert. Although during the performance he put his hand on his belly, his current progress has been ideal and later would return to make a series.

[2018.02.24] OPERATION RED SEA HEADS TOWARD 3.6 MILLION RMB

courtesy of on.cc
courtesy of singtao.com

"Demon Director" Dante Lam Chiu Yin's action film OPERATION RED SEA after a week in release in the Mainland took over the top box office from DETECTIVE CHINATOWN 2 on the 22nd. Its admission rate even pulled away from DETECTIVE 2, MONSTER HUNT 2 and THE MONKEY KING 3. Yesterday OPERATION RED SEA even broke the 1.5 billion RMB mark for the top 15th spot in the highest grossing film history in the Mainland. Some predicted that the film might be able to reach 3.646 billion RMB and replaced the Stephen Chow Sing Chi directed MERMAID (MEI YUN YU)'s over 3.3 billion RMB box office!

Lam Chiu Yin replied with a smile, "If this really happens, to me of course it would be a happy thing. The rarest is for the audience to recognize everything in this film. Even better for me is, from now on I can do things that I want to do even more. I hope to be able to make something even bigger, and even more entertaining!"

Lam Chiu Yin has already become both quality and box office guarantee. As for his future film production plans, he had two major conditions. "First is creative space. Each film's topic is something that I want to express. Otherwise making a movie would be meaningless; the other is production criteria. In the past many films put money on the stars. I hope this film of mine can make investors believe that a sincere and seriously produced film s worth spending the money for the audience to see." He planned to challenge grand scale heavyweight productions without forgetting Hong Kong. "I am in negotiation with Emperor Motion Pictures boss Mr. Yeung (Dr. Albert Yeung Sau Sing) for a crime action drama set in Hong Kong. Previously TO THE FORE and OPERATION MEKONG were a little distant from Hong Kong. I want to make a movie that is closely connected to Hong Kong again."

courtesy of singtao.com

Leon Lai Ming will repeat as the promotional ambassador for the 14th Hong Kong Entertainment Expo at the invitation of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Leon's tongue twister promotional video went viral last year. This year he made a 180 degree change. In the 30 second promotional video he quietly introduced the nine major events of the Entertainment Expo, which will take place between March 19th and April 15th with action. He summed up with the slogan "Support with action, no need to say anything" and urged everyone to support this entertainment event and the Hong Kong entertainment industry.

Leon said, "As a part of the Hong Kong entertainment industry, I am very happy to be able to be the Hong Kong Entertainment Expo ambassador again this year. The Hong Kong Entertainment Expo is the major annual event for the entertainment industry. I hope everyone this year would support it with me with action."

[2018.02.24] GIGI LEUNG WATCHES THE MONKEY KING 3 WITH FANS

Gigi Leung Wing Kei in the fantasy comedy THE MONKEY KING 3 (SAI YAU GEI NUI YI GOK) played the preceptor, her presence and fantasy make up opened the eyes of many. The film company earlier held a screening in Causeway Bay for Leung Wing Kei's fans to watch THE MONKEY KING 3 with Gigi and celebrate the Lunar New Year together!

Gigi in the film played the dominating preceptor, her relationship with the King Zanilia Zhao Liying was both like the king and its official and mother and daughter; with the asexual "River God" Lin Chiling she even had a delicate relationship. In order to strengthen the preceptor's presence, she tried Hollywood special effect make up for the first time. Everyday for work she had to be in make up 5 hours in advance, and after work she would spend 1 hours to remove it. Gigi stressed to her fans, "Although my hair line is very high in the film, my forehead isn't so high naturally. It's make up effect!" Some fans watched THE MONKEY KING 3 that day, and some watched it again. All praised it as "entertaining!"

Early in the month Gigi attended the Beijing premiere. This was the first time she watched the Cantonese version. She said, "Both times the emotional spots were the same, the scene in which the Tang Monk and the King let go for their relationship and when I watched the King let go of everything Herland and jumped into the sea with the Tang Monk. Watching them again I was still very moved!"

For the Lunar New Year, fans asked Gigi for lai see. "For real! Earlier they asked me and they were too sudden! I didn't have any lai see on me." Actually every year Gigi would take her daughter Sofia's lucky money and donate it to charity organization. Since this time she did not prepare lai see for fans, she decided to follow Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's lead and donate the lai see in the name of all Hong Kong. She said, "Since every year I would donate Sofia's lucky money, this year I would make a donation in the name of the fans. I would follow Sing Sing's lead and double the happiness. It would be both meaningful and charitable, which would be pretty good!"

Popular in the 1960s, the former "Asia Best Actress" Shaw star Lee Ching (originally named Lee Kwok Ying) yesterday was found dead at home at age 69. The police yesterday received a report from a Quarry Bay building security about foul stench from an unit. No one responded. The police and the fire department broke down the door and entered the home, where they found a woman dead on her bed. The police found anything suspicious initially and the cause of death awaited autopsy to be determined. Having worked with and met Lee Ching, Helen Ma, John Chiang Dai Wai, Susan Shaw Yam Yam were shocked to hear the news.

Lee Ching has retired from film for over 30 years. Reportedly friends with contact already lost touch with her during the Lunar New Year. A foul stench came from her unit recently. When the police found her body it was already decomposing. She was believed to have been dead for days. The police is trying to contact her family.

Lee Ching was born in 1948, at age 15 she joined the Shaw Southern Experimental Drama Troupe. In 1965 with the film THE MERMAID she won Asia Best Actress. At the age she was not yet 17 and was known as the "Doll Best Actress". She made many films including SUSANNA, HAVE SWORD WILL TRAVEL, and the 1972 THE MERRY WIFE. She had box office guarantee and became a hot property among actresses in Hong Kong and Taiwan. With Mona Fong and Lily Ho they became the top three stars of Shaw as they were chosen as the top ten stars of Mandarin films for three years in a row. In 1976, she left Shaw after 13 years and made and invested in movies on her own. In 1979 her boyfriend of 10 years, Kowloon Bus company descendant Lui Kwok Wa suddenly passed away. She suffered a setback and reduced her production. In 1983 her mother passed away and she gradually eased out of the show business.

Lee Ching was wealthy once, having lived in an over 400 square foot mansion at the Peak and rental properties for income. She was once worth over HK$ 500,000. However her film investments often suffered losses. She was also rumored to have failed investments and gambled, she sold her properties and rented instead. Reportedly "Uncle Six" Sir Run Run Shaw (Siu Yat Fu) helped her financially. In 2012, reportedly her landlady went to court for the 3 years of rent she owed.

Helen Ma was very saddened to learn about Lee Ching's passing. She said that she no longer had contact with lee Ching. Occasionally they would run into each other in Happy Valley and they would greet each other. Speaking of Lee Ching appearing to be living alone, she sighed and said that she did not know whether Lee Ching had any family to help with her funeral. If necessary she would contact Chiang Dai Wai, Ti Lung and others for help. As for Lee Ching's poor financial situation, did she help with money? She did not want to talk about that. Chiang Dai Wai worked with Lee Ching in film. He said that they have not seen each other for many years and the passing was very regrettable.
