[ HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ]
Inspired by the true story of Hong Kong’s first teenage baseball team, director Chan Chi-fat’s Weeds on Fire proves a surprisingly relevant youth sports drama. In the 1980s, two childhood friends join the Shatin Martins, a Band 3 school baseball team managed by the school principal (Liu Kai-chi). From these humble beginnings, the boys experience camaraderie, fall in love and make fateful decisions that resonate throughout their lives amid a changing Hong Kong and its sporting world.

[ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ]
In the year of 1984, the Sino-British Joint Declaration was signed, and the future of Hong Kong became unclear. In the stream of history, this story of a baseball team beneath the Lion Rock had gradually been forgotten. In that year, "Shatin Martins", the first Hong Kong youth baseball team, was formed. The 10 young players were living an uneasy and restless life as Hong Kong was being humiliated by one defeat after another and the fate of the “Shatin Martins” and their strong rival, the Japanese Buffaloes, hanged in the balance. However, the hardship only brought out their bravery to surmount themselves and overcome the struggles. Living in the golden age, these players ignited their glory with every game as they grew together with their city. Eventually, it all comes down to the final game facing their greatest rival yet...

Meanwhile, Inspector Q narrows down Blackjack’s whereabouts when he learns of a finance group’s involvement in a drug deal in Brazil. The deal involves company chairman Kwok Ming, his advisor Lam, Lam’s right-hand man Shiu and Foon-hei, who is plotting a comeback to the crime world. When the players learn of an undercover agent in their midst, paranoia and distrust begin to cloud over the deal...

[ THE FILM CATALOGUE ]
After a handler of undercover agents died and his classified files erased, some of the identities of those agents become lost. When someone codenamed Blackjack contacts the police, asserting that he is a lost agent , Inspector Q sends Agent Ting to contact him. Ting soon finds herself manipulated by Blackjack, while Inspector Q encounters a series of peculiar events resulting in the death of the chairman of a finance group. Finally, Inspector Q manages to pin down the whereabouts of Blackjack and uncovers the surreptitious involvement of a business company in a huge drug deal in Brazil. [2016.09.01] LOUISA MAK POUTS OVER BAD TAKES

Despite Louisa Mak's efforts she still has 12 bad takes

Miss Hong Kong Louisa Mak Ming Sze two nights ago worked on Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s new film SUT LUEN YUT with Dominic Ho Ho Man near Central's Man Mo Temple. Working together again after a television series, Louisa had plenty of expressions in her performance and had to deliver her lines while walking with Ho Ho Man. However because the director wanted to try a variety of gestures, they kept shooting repeatedly. Louisa pouted and started over again, finally after 12 takes the shoot was finally finished.

Louisa said that she gained a lot from her first film. As for the frequent bad takes, she said, "The director asked for many shots, I feel I still have a lot of room for improvement. (Did Ho Ho Man try to cheer you up?) He didn't just talk with me, he constantly tried to get other people to chat." Earlier they worked on the film with Nina Paw Hee Ching, Shek Sau and Snow Suen Wai Suet and posted photos online. Playing Paw Hee Ching's daughter, Suen Wai Suet praised her elder's great acting.

Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's mother Shally Davies two nights ago attended her film's premiere. Her children Peggy Davies (Dai Bik Chi), Ronnie Cheung Ho Lung, his wife and Parkman Cheung showed their support. When asked why Cheung Pak Chi did not appear, Pak Chi's mother said, "She has been busier later, I asked her to buy a ticket later." She said that when she first took the role she did not tell her children right away, because she wanted to surprise them. She hoped to have a chance to work with her children on a movie in the future.

[2016.09.01] CELIA KWOK'S BED SCENE ENDS UP ON THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR

Opening next Thursday in Hong Kong, the new film HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) had a fiery love scene that exceeded censorship limits. Newlywed Celia Kwok Wing Yi in the film had a daring bed scene with her on screen boyfriend Carlos Chan Ka Lok, as her final release before her wedding.

The Chan Ka Lok played "youth on the edge" had to live in a subdivided room in the film. Although he was very poor he still had Celia K. as his girlfriend. She even "delivered" to the tiny room to "battle" Chan Ka Lok. Actually director Andy Lo (Law Yiu Fai) has seen Chan Ka Lok in the AIDS prevention film FOR LOVE, WE CAN (OI, BUT LAN), in which he had a series of make up and bed scenes with another actor Neo Yau Hawk-Sau. Director Law felt that Chan Ka Lok was very daring and had no bottom line. At the same time HAPPINESS had a bed scene, so he asked him to give it a try. Chan Ka Lok joked, "After FOR LOVE, WE CAN, I really got an offer from a man!"

That fiery scene took place in an old Sham Shui Po building. Celia K. lay topless on top of Chan Ka Lok and got intimate for two full minutes. Although she was married, Celia K. did not feel that her husband would mind. "Marriage doesn't affect my on screen work. It's a part of life. Even when I will have a child in the future, I feel playing a wife or a mother role may be even more 'appropriate'." Unfortunately the audience would not be able to see this scene because the film received a category IIB rating. Due to censorship limits Law Yiu Fai could only remove this bed scene. He hoped to be able to include it in the video release.

Miss Hong Kong Louisa Mak Ming Sze is already in a film before her term ends as she worked on Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s romance with her rumored boyfriend Dominic Ho Ho Man. Louisa was prepared for the rumor to start up again but was not worried that her boyfriend would be mad. Just returning from Brazil, she has been so busy that she has not been tested for the Zika virus. Ho Ho Man did not mind at all. He even said, "I look forward to her infecting me, it would be an experience!"

Recently Mak Ming Sze caught director Yip Lim Sum's eyes and was offered SUT LUEN YUT (BREAK UP DAY). She got into the film industry already before her Miss Hong Kong reign came to an end, she truly deserved the title of "winner in life". For Louisa's first film, her co-star would be Ho Ho Man. Her "first time" on television and in film have been with Ho Ho Man. Louisa was prepared for the rumor to start up again. "Actually when the series will air, the rumor will probably start again. It doesn't matter, it's like promotion for me." Would her boyfriend be jealous? She said, "No, this is work, I didn't tell him. I only mentioned it in an ordinary conversation. (Did you get his permission?) I don't need to, I need my manager's approval." Louisa stated that she did not know whether she and Ho Ho Man would have a kiss scene. She would wait for the director's arrangement.

Ho Ho Man said that he was worried about rumors with Louisa. "It doesn't matter, it's just a little fun for everyone!" Louisa has not been tested for the Zika virus after returning from Brazil, but Ho Ho Man did not mind at all. He instead said that Mak Ming Sze to infect her. "I look forward to her infecting me. With my fear of height, other than standing on high places I want to try everything. My life experience would be richer." Was he worried that her boyfriend would be jealous? Ho Ho Man said, "If he is afraid something would happen from working together on a movie, then he should make a movie for his girlfriend!"

Yip Lim Sum after last year's ANNIVERSARY (GEI LIM YUT) returns with the romance SUT LUEN YUT (BREAK UP DAY) this year. Aside from Louisa, the cast also would include Stephy Tang Lai Yun. She will continue to play the role of "Ah Bo". The film earlier already started production. Last night the team worked in Lai Chi Kok. She and Ho Ho Man not only sweetly dated in the film but also were very chatty off screen.

Yesterday Tang Lai Yun was not present. Her old flame Alex Fong Lik Sun has not been confirmed yet. The film will keep adding actors so it was up in the air whether Fong Lik Sun will be one of them. Also at work last night were Nina Paw Hee Ching, Snow Suen Wai Suet and Shek Sau.

Recently working on director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s new film, she also had to prepare for Chapman To Man Chak's upcoming film with karate and Muay Thai training. Stephy's contract with Sun Entertainment would come to an end early next year, earlier she was rumored to no longer want to be in the same company as former boyfriend Alex Fong Lik Sun and planned to jump ship. Stephy once said that she has begun contract negotiation.

Sun Entertainment chief Paco Wong yesterday said, "I personally and the company sincerely want to keep working with Stephy. I respect all of her decisions, as long as she would be happy. (The rumor is that she wants to avoid being together with her ex Fong Lik Sun?) No, although I have never asked her, she is a mature artist. She is very clear about her film future, which is her focus. In the end I would wait for her to decide."

Television producer Ren Ishikawa discovered that he actually was a reclusive singer and put all of her effort into helping her back to the stage again.

Last time he was the director, this time he would write, direct and star. (Any kiss scene?) Let's save some room for imagination, actually I don't know." Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai)'s 65th birthday was on August 22nd. Amy Fan Yik Man planned a surprise party to celebrate with him. 5 years ago, Lau Ka Fai suffered a stroke that limited his mobility and speech. He also had family troubles, financial lawsuits with his former assistant, all of which worn out him even more. Earlier his fans set up a facebook page and posted photos and videos from Lau Ka Fai's birthday. He looked great and his health condition has greatly improved. Fan Yik Man has been taking care of Lau Ka Fai's life in recent years. She said, "It's a bonus to see his health improvement. He is great, very hard working, stroke patients can be hopeful too."

Among the guests in the photos were Wai Ka Hung, Joe Cheung Tung Cho, Sze Cho Nam and foreign fans. Although Lau Ka Fai was still in a wheel chair, on the video he grabbed the microphone and sang English songs. Fan Yik Man said that three tables were set up for the banquet. Also present were doctors and lawyers who have helped Lau Ka Fai. Because he liked music, a live band was also present. He did not know about the birthday party before hand and thought that he was going to dinner as usual. When he saw his friends he was especially excited. She said, "When he was asked to sing he was shy, later he grabbed the microphone and refused to let it go. He sang several songs; he also grabbed a guitar and played for a few minutes!" Foreign fans shot some videos, his fans from as far as Holland, the U.S. and Canada have contact with him and came to Hong Kong to visit him. Some suggested to make a documentary about Lau Ka Fai, so they shot some videos at the birthday banquet.

Fan Yik Man said that after the birthday party, Lau Ka Fai returned to his nursing home and was so tired that he had to rest for several days. He was in great condition, but there was no guarantee that it would not take a turn for the worse. Earlier she did not dare to take Lau Ka Fai outside because he was too frail. Now they would set appointments to go out and planned to jam with a band as long as he was happy. Early after the stroke, Lau Ka Fai's right hand and foot could not move as his right hand was in a fist. Now he could open his right hand and his walking has improved. The nurses also praised him hard work. She said, "Earlier many people told me that there is no cure for the stroke, the fact is with support and the patient's willing to persevere the condition can be improved." She volunteered to be Lau Ka Fai's guardian. Has it been tough on her? Fan Yik Man said that many friends have helped out. To her, seeing Lau Ka Fai's health improve was a bonus.
