Actor turned director Nick Cheung Ka Fai made his directing debut with the horror film HUNGRY GHOST RITUALS (YU LAN SUN GUNG) and invited "two generations of goddesses" Carrie Ng Ka Lai and Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) to star. With heavy Chinese opera make up in the sizzling summer, Ng Ka Lai had water in her hand during the entire shoot. Accidentally scratching her palm during the shoot, she had to tolerate the pain and continue to perform. Luckily Director Cheung praised her professionalism! Sum Yau who was dressed casually messed around on the set to cheer up everyone!

Ka Fai's directing debut would b a horror film. Because the film would have a traditional Chinese opera troupe for its background, opera costumes were of major importance. Thus earlier in the heat, Ka Lai still had to wear the heavy opera costume for work. To alleviate the heat, she could only have water on hand the whole time.

As the director, Ka Fai directed Ka Lai throughout. During the shoot she accidentally scratched her palm but at the time she still had to continue to perform. After the director yelled cut, she asked the crew to treat the wound as Ka Fai praised Ka Lai's professionalism. Co-star Lam Wai also had to appear in Chinese opera make up. Only Sum Yau was "spared" as she appeared in a casual look. Without the weight on her shoulder, she kept making faces in the audience and made poses for photos. She brought a joyous atmosphere to the team!

HUNGRY GHOST RITUALS will soon open. Earlier Ka Fai led Sum Yau and Ka Lai to appear on Cable's Film Montage. Ka Fai admitted that he still was not used to the title of "director" but immediately said that directing felt great. He hoped to have a chance to direct another horror film, but next time he would not star. He would only focus on directing.

Ka Fai even revealed that originally the investors invited him to direct a police film, but he turned it down because he "made too many". Later he suggested a horror film, the investors thought about it for two days and agreed.

For this film, Ka Fai even suffered insomnia. Because he had to keep thinking up frightening scenes, he thought day and night and could not fall asleep! Would Ka Fai take his daughter to the film? He said that his daughter has never watched his films because their subjects were not suitable for children. This time was no exception.

Working on her first horror film, Sum Yau had more and more fun as the shoot went on. Actually she had a lot of physical scenes in the film and often had to be on the wires to play "being possessed" and having seizures. To her it was a challenge to both body and spirit! Ka Lai who has always been a horror film fan looked forward to HUNGRY GHOST RITUAL very much. On the set she was already frightened enough, with the additional post production elements like sound effects she believe the film would be very exciting!
