[2011.08.01] MYOLIE WU REMAINS BY JOHNNIE TO'S SIDE

courtesy of singtao.com

Since Charmaine Sheh Si Man left TVB, Myolie Wu Hung Yi has been considered one of the top actresses to take her place. Earlier TVB even arranged for her to appear on the big screen. First she guest starred in BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL, recently she also worked on the Johnnie To Kei Fung directed new film LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM). With the golden opportunity in front of her, Hung Yi did not take a step away from To Sir. When she was not in a scene, she would rather stay on the set!

Hung Yi was the happiest about the chance to work with big director To Kei Fung on his new film LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE. The film starred Lau Ching Wan, Anthony Wong Chau Sun and Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai). Its production took over 2 years to prepare for, Hung Yi in the film played Yam Yin Chai's wife.

Reportedly Hung Yi valued working with To Sir very much. Every time at work she would only be early and never late. She would commit her lines to memory. Earlier when they shot on location at a Happy Valley property agency, Hung Yi arrived early. At the time To Sir was still scouting the location and the worker told her that since the production would not officially start until a hour later she should eat first. However Hung Yi shook her head to decline and then went to the bakery next door for some buns.

Hung Yi returned to the store in less than 5 minutes, stayed in To Sir's sight as she ate and waited while she seriously studied the script. When the shoot began, Hung Yi dragged a child actor around. To Sir often instructed her on how to take her marks. Hung Yi's performance did not disappoint To Sir either, after three takes she was OK. In comparison, Yam Yin Chai who has worked with To Sir countless times was much more relaxed. When he was not in a scene he was chatting and laughing with the crew!

Hung Yi also posted her photo with To Sir online. "LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE has finally wrapped. Thank you To Sir for giving me this rare chance to play a little woman. I am very glad about gaining a lot of valuable experience this time!" Hung Yi revealed that she learned a lot from To Sir and witnessed him yelling at someone, luckily she was not on the receiving end. Before making this film, To Sir asked her to wipe away her previous acting and play this little woman role in an all new way. At the same times she even complimented him as a good director who would instruct actors from the heart. He even caught small gestures that she did not recognize, like snickering and blinking while delivering her lines. Hung Yi was very appreciative and hoped to have a chance to work with To Sir again in the future.

The Charmaine Sheh Si Man and Alex Fong Lik Sun starred film LOVE IS THE ONLY ANSWER (YUN YUEK LEI FUN HAU) opened recently and its box office reportedly has been heading toward 5 million. Actors Ah Sheh, Law Chung Hin, Jacqueline Chong Si Man and Carol Yeung Chi Yiu yesterday appeared at a Mongkok cinema for viewer appreciation.

Ah Sheh revealed that the film performed ideally, which made her very happy. She stated, "As far as I know, later the film will be shown in more cinemas." She also expressed that because she has not made a film in a long time, initially she felt very nervous. She honestly said that aside from thanking everyone for their support, she also had to thank director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) for giving her a chance. As for working together later, she honestly said that earlier the director has already mentioned it. Ah Sheh said, "This film will start production again (sequel) in September, but I have two Mainland series offers. I have to check my schedule."

Was she satisfied with her salary? She stressed that the story mattered more. Ah Sheh said, "Money isn't the most important, I have to look at the story." After leaving TVB her professional opportunities followed one after another. She responded, "Actually they have been pretty much the same, now I just have a little more control."

In addition, Law Chung honestly said that he once worried about becoming the box office poison. He said, "My earlier film MARRIAGE WITH A LIAR (FUN CHIN SI OI) had decent box office. The director said that luckily I wasn't box office poison!" In both films he had many bed scenes, would he accept even more extreme performance next time? Him Jai stated that he has not thought about full frontal. He said, "I have worked with the director twice. I have confidence in him. However my bottom line is being topless, I don't want to go all out just yet. Even if I do I have to see whether the script requires it. I want to wait until I am more mature!"

[2011.08.01] MICHELLE YE'S ABILITY TO CRY STUNS LOUIS KOO

courtesy of takungpao.com

Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen) is paired up with Louis Koo Tin Lok in OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2). Because in the film Yip Shuen had to go to prison at the hands of her on screen husband Goo Jai, she had to interpret the struggles between love and pain. Yip Shuen's "ability to cry" stunned Goo Jai, who could not help but praise "the Old Lady"!

This was not Yip Shuen and Goo Jai's first collaboration, and the most important to relationship scenes were chemistry and spark. In the film Yip Shuen had many crying scenes. Her tears seemed to flow like she had a tap as she cried on cue. No wonder people on the set made fun of her as a natural crybaby. Even Goo Jai said that he was no match for her. Yip Shuen humbly said, "Anyone else in this character would be able to cry, so it's just that the directors' story is good. Of course, co-star is very important. Goo Jai is able to bring me into character." Yet this time she only worked for a few days. Although Yip Shuen said that her acting bug had its fill, she honestly said that it was not enough. She looked forward very much to working with Koo Tin Lok again. She said, "I am happy to be a part of OVERHEARD 2; but it was just a few short days of acting. If I have the chance I of course would like to work with Goo Jai."

Goo Jai said, "Although I didn't have too many scenes with Yip Shuen, those scenes required proper handling. I had to express the source of our relationship. My favorite scene was bringing Yip Shuen home. We had to talk about our feelings over the years and led up to the final break up. The scene wasn't long, and I didn't have too many lines, but we had to express our helplessness. This scene left a very deep feeling with me."

Michael Tse Ting Wa yesterday was a guest performer on THE VOICE 3 at Television City and performed the YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) film theme song. Tin Wa said that he wanted to encourage the contestants, he did not want to scare them or make them nervous.

Tin Wa now is mainly an actor. In September he will make another film, which will be related to his series LIVES OF OMISSION (CHIM HUNG JUI GIK) but it will not tightly follow the series release because the film still needed post production work.

Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild sold its old location in Ho Man Tin for a good price then purchase a new and larger location in Kwung Tong. Yesterday it held a relocation worship ceremony. Attendees included current Film Directors' Guild president Derek Yee Tung Sing,
vice presidents Andrew Lau Wai Keung, Manfred Wong (Man Jun), Alex Law Kai Yui and secretary general Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting.

Siu Bo revealed that the old location sold for a good price and even had money left over, which hopefully would be able to maintain the organization's financial condition. Since the organization's establishment in 1989, its membership has already grown to over 250 people. However most have already retired and only 30 to 40 people are still truly making movies. As for the new location, Man Jun said that companies of Andy Lau Tak Wa, Peter Chan Ho Sun, Lau Wai Keung and others were in the same district. The feeling was that it was like the film industry's Hollywood. Now some of the Film Directors' Guild new location will be provided for the offices of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers. Siu Bo also said that although there was competition between directors, he still hoped that friendship came first as they protect director interests together and hopefully cultivate the next generation of director successors.

As for the recently piping hot Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi marriage troubles, Siu Bo said that with love and children involved the matter was very hard to comment on. He thought that Ting Fung and Pak Chi were still young. Siu Bo also worried that outside reports would affect how they would handle problems and hoped that they would handle them in peace. When Pak Chi made her comeback she turned down Siu Bo's new film and caused some unpleasantness. Would Siu Bo ask Pak Chi to perform again in the future? Siu Bo said, "There wasn't any unpleasantness at all, this is minor. Film productions is also about fate, everyone has the right to choose." Siu Bo's new film THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) is in its post production stage and planned for a Lunar New Year release. Lead actress Zhou Xun joked that Siu Bo swindled her because she thought she would be in a romance with two Best Actors Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Lau Ching Wan, so she agreed to perform without reading the script. She did not expect to fight from the beginning to the end of the movies. Siu Bo said that Zhou Xun had a lot of fun on the set because she was able to work with her favorites Wai Jai and Ching Wan. In addition they in the film would fight over her. Siu Bo also praised Zhou Xun as very special, getting along great with Wai Jai and Ching Wan. In addition she absolutely had no star arrogance.

Cheung Yuen Ting revealed that she was planning a new film that would take place in the 40s and the 50s. The family of a little guy escaped from Anhui to Hong Kong and struggled to survive. The around 30 year old lead would have two sons and thus needed to have a mature and masculine weathered flavor. She would like Ting Fung to play the role. Ting Fung has already read the script but they needed to work out the details.

Would Ting Fung's marriage troubles help with his performance? Cheung Yuen Ting said, "Life experience would more or less benefit the performance, I of course don't want anything to happen to his family. (Ting Fung is already in the Best Actor class, has his salary climbed?) I am not responsible for dealing with that."

[2011.07.30] ALEX FONG LIK SUN PLAYS COWARDLY TO CHALLENGE HIMSELF

courtesy of singtao.com

Alex Fong Lik Sun two days ago attended the film FLASH PLAY (JI MING SIM WAN) press conference. Siu Fong in the film played the male lead A De. The film company revealed that Fong Lik Sun's handsome and trendy exterior and decent recent performances caught its eyes. During the initial cast unveiling, a special teaming of two generations of comedy stars took place. At the magician's detailed set up and arrangement, Siu Fong appeared from behind a mysterious magic door and surprised everyone.

As for his character in the film, Siu Fong said that this time was a break through in his performance career. He said, "This character is very different from before, which to me is rather challenging. This character I play in the film is somewhat cowardly. Although he looks
handsome and cool, he lacks a sense of security inside. He is someone who is conflicted. This character needs very detailed emotional performance, which to me is an elevation in acting."

Juno Mak Chun Lung with REVENGE A LOVE STORY (FUK SAU JEH JI SEI) at the 15th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival won the Best Actor award. Director Wong Ching Po also at the 33rd Moscow International Film Festival won Best Director. The film company yesterday held a celebration for them. Willie Chan Chi Keung, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, and executive producers Josie Ho Chiu Yi and Chan Chi Chung attended.

Juno honestly said that he was very happy about his first film award. He said that at the time because he did not understand Korean and his near sightedness kept him from reading the English subtitles. He only learned that he won when the director screamed. He said, "I never thought about winning because the competition was very strong. At that moment I didn't know how to react. The funniest part was, after I gave my speech in Mandarin I realized that they didn't have a Mandarin translator. Later I gave it again in English, it was like winning twice." Juno also thanked his god father Chan Chi Keung and Chiu Yi. Because of REVENGE's daring subject, finding an investor was difficult. Luckily Chiu Yi agreed after reading the script. Would Juno get a raise after winning Best Actor? He said that was up to his god father. Chan Chi Keung felt that Juno should widen his range right now and could think about salaries later. Juno would like to develop a film career with his god father's experience, he would also like to direct if the opportunity would present itself. Has he shared the news with his father? He said, "I look forward to showing the award to my family! My parents and my brother are very happy too!"

Ho Chiu Yi felt elated from the film's overseas successes. Because award winners have always been major feature films, she did not expect that a horror film would win. She praised the jury and even Juno for a performance that was a pleasant surprise to her. Unfortunately he was not nominated for a Hong Kong Film Award for Best New Actor. She said, "Maybe the genre made his nomination impossible, luckily he won overseas." Will Chiu Yi still mainly make bloody and violent films? She said that the theme would "explosive" and extreme. With the success of this film, Chiu Yi said that she has not have the time to tell her father yet. In addition Chan Chi Keung announced that the new direction of the film company that he and Juno founded, including the already completed Juno, Pat Ha Man Jik, Stephy Tang Lai Yun, Jimmy Wang Yu, Gary Chaw (Cho Gat) starred new film LET'S GO (BO WAI JIN DUI ji CHOOK DUNG LA! PUNG YAU!), the next film will be a collaboration with Kwan Kam Peng.

[2011.07.30] LINDA WONG GETS MEAN TO KEEP AN EYE ON HER FATHER

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Linda Wong Hing Ping yesterday attended a skin care product event. Despite the category 3 typhoon warning, guests still dressed up for the event. Linda's father Jimmy Wang Yu earlier suffered a stroke and recently has already recovered and released from the hospital. Earlier she even attended the WU XIA premiere with her father and walked the red carpet together, which was very memorable for her.

Linda pointed out that earlier her father already asked the film company to let him attend the premiere because this was his wish. Director Peter Chan Ho Sun respected their family's intent and asked for permission before permitting Wang Yu to attend. Wong Hing Ping pointed out that actually when her father said that he wanted to go, she as a daughter could not stop him. Yet this time was very memorable for her. When her father was making movies, she was still very little. When she got into the business, her father no longer made movies.

Linda praised her father's outstanding performance in the film, many people praised him as well. However she still had to adjust a little because her father mostly played good guys before. Now her father could no longer drink. When they dined with friends and her father had a glass of red wine in front of him, she would immediately yell at him to keep him from drinking it. She joked that she has never been so mean to her father in her life. She said that her father rarely turned anyone down, so many friends and family all agreed for her to be a little meaner to keep him from drinking.

[2011.07.30] MRS. HEUNG CLAIMS CECILIA CHEUNG IS MOODY

courtesy of takungpao.com

Chan Lan, Mrs. Charles Heung Wa Keung, was a guest on a cable talk show recently. On the program she urged Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi to pay attention her mood and attitude at work. She also said that for her son's career, he would not permitted to get married in the next ten years.

Speaking of Cheung Pak Chi's marriage troubles, Mrs. Heung sighed, "It's very unfortunately, actually tolerance is the most important." Mrs. Heung said that Pak Chi's mood and work attitude indeed affected her family. "Pak Chi earlier brought her son Lucas to my home and said that she was free to make a movie. Finally I found a director, who complained that she was whining about hard work, cold weather and she didn't take my calls." She wholeheartedly offered Pak Chi some advice, "You have to be professional at work, since you took the role you have to go no matter what." However, Mrs. Heung still treated Pak Chi like her own daughter. She said that as long as the character was suitable she definitely would approach Pak Chi.

After making countless film industry superstars, Mrs. Heung would not help her son Jacky Heung Jor. She said, "If I make him a star, others would suspect that he relies on his parents. If he doesn't make it, then he drags me down with him! I might as well let him try his own luck." She also said that she has no opinion about her son's relationship but made him promise that in order for him to focus on career development and saving up fans, he was not permitted to wed in the next ten years. However Gor Gor Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing probably hurt Mrs. Heung the
most. Mrs. Heung recalled, "That day around 5PM I got a call from Gor Gor, he said that he didn't have depression, wasn't possessed, and even asked me to set up a press conference for him to clarify. Then in less than a hour, the news of his suicide came." Mrs. Heung was still teary eyed as she recalled that day. She said that Gor Gor still lived in her heart, like a friend who she has not seen in a long time.

Louis Koo Tin Lok two days ago fell at home. He went to the hospital for a x-ray yesterday and discovered a severe cruciate ligament tear that would require four months of doctor visits and physical therapy. Due to the severity of the injury, he was concerned that he would not be able to handle his new film production and offered his resignation to the film company. Both sides are still in negotiation.

Koo Tin Lok last year injured his right leg during a stunt for A CHINESE GHOST STORY (SIN NUI YAU WON) and required long term therapy. Months ago he just had an operation. Due to his decent recovery progress Goo Jai recently has been practicing horse riding in preparation for his new film next month, YANG CLAN WARRIORS (YUT MOON JUNG LIT ji YEUNG GA JEUNG).

The film's boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming was quite close to Goo Jai and was worried about Koo Tin Lok's injury. He hoped the most for him to recover soon. The film will start production in five days. With Koo Tin Lok's less than optimistic condition, what would Wong Pak Ming do? He said, "Right now I keep calling. Of course I hope the most for Goo Jai to get well, but right now I am also thinking which actor is suitable. Because this just happened, I don't know what the situation will be. (If Goo Jai resigns, would the film company suffer a great loss?) That's minor, the most important for Goo Jai to be fine."

Goo Jai originally did not want to publicize his injury, but when he attended an event in Guangzhou fans saw him with a cane and rumors spread like wildfire online. He was forced to publicize his injury.

During the event Huang Yi who has worked with Goo Jai twice took the initiative to help him around. She played Qiu Jin in the film THE WOMAN KNIGHT OF THE MIRROR LAKE (GAING HUNG NUI HUP CHAU KUN), which Qiu Jin has questioned the accuracy of. Huang Yi honestly said that she had no idea but felt that the film was full of sincerity and entertainment. She praised Qiu Jin as still a legendary woman today.

On the set they constantly tell dirty jokes." Yue Man Lok asked the director not to ask Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) to play the third party between them. Hui On Wa excitedly that her dream of many years has finally come truth. Ip Tak Han was overjoyed to receive the good news as she excitedly said, "That's very fortunate, this is the result of the entire team's group effort. Actually I am unfamiliar with foreign film festivals and only have a deeper impression of the Oscars. This time my film will be able to go overseas for the first time, it is very rare for even more people to learn about Hong Kong film. I once read a Time magazine report online that the top ten Eastern films are all action films. In the eyes of foreigners Chinese films seem to only be martial art or action films. This time A SIMPLE LIFE is different, it is a refined drama. I hope foreign viewers would know that Eastern films have many different genres as well. I am even more excited about walking the film festival red carpet holding 'Jai Jai' Lau Tak Wa's hand." Sister Deanie joked that she immediately asked an image director to fix her up with film festival fashion and head over there early to adjust to the time difference.

Lau Tak Wa's DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK) also competed. Wa Jai was excited about attending the Venice Film Festival for a second year. "Working with Sister Deanie is rare enough, now we can even hold hands and walk the red carpet. Of course I am happy. I again create another memorable experience with Sister Deanie in my life. At the same time I am pleased to see Chinese film getting attention. Go! Hong Kong film!" Hui On Wa also excitedly said, "I waited for over ten years, now my dream is finally fulfilled. I am the happiest that as soon as Venice chair Marco Muller saw the film he immediately invited it to the festival. I didn't have to wait, ha! It's truly too great. I really have to thank Sister Deanie and Wa Jai's exciting performances." In addition, Taiwan director Wei Te-Sheng's SEEDIQ BALE and Ching Siu Tung's THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE were also selected. SEEDIQ producer John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) happily said, "Director Wei Te-Sheng truly is amazing." SORCERER will also hold its global premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The selections will be announced later.

Earlier on the set they demonstrated a "shuttling" dance as they bumped heads and stepped on toes. Pak Chi's braids even often slapped Xiao Shenyang's face. Their expressions were mischievous and they danced and laughed so hard that they were tearing up, as the set was filled with laughter. The dance was one of the major comedy bright spots in the entire film. Pak Chi and Xiao Shenyang trained with a dance instructor before the shoot, but during the shoot due to the lack of music they had a hard time with the pace. Director Joe Ma Wai Ho immediately thought up using a mobile phone to play a song.

The Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed LOVE IS THE ONLY ANSWER (YUN YUEK LEI FUN HAU) after six days in release accumulated almost 3 million at the box office. To show appreciation to the cast and the crew, the film company two nights ago held a banquet. Aside from the director and executive producer Wong Jing, attending actors included Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Law Chung Him, Jacqueline Chong Si Man and Evelyn Choi Wing Yun. They even popped bottles of champagne and balloons to wish for continuing sold out at every show.

Law Chung Him was very satisfied with the film's box office numbers. If the box office will break 10 million, he suggested for a celebration on a yacht with the actresses. Would Ah Sheh dare to appear in swimwear then? She said, "He of course doesn't have to be afraid! He can show off his 42 inch chest. (You can show off your 20 inch waist?) I can too, I can compete. (Would you wear a bikini?) We will see. I have confident in my figure, but I want to stay out of the sun. It's a lot of fun to play together, I haven't been to a yacht party in a
long time. However reporters will have to wear (bikinis) too!"

Ah Sheh honestly said that she has not worn swimwear in eight or ten years in public. Would she not consider to wear swimwear even for work? She said, "It depends on whether it is necessary, it's not just about the money. (Have you thought about making a photo book?) No, I am not that daring. Now so many are young and pretty. (Leave a memory of your youth?) I have enough! 13 years ago my Miss Hong Kong pageants are enough!" As for the box office numbers, Ah Sheh hoped it will climb and climb again. She even planned to sneak into the cinema to check out audience reaction.

Earlier the band Mr.'s drummer Tom (To Chi Wun) honestly admitted that he and Evelyn have already broken up for four months and was rumored to be with "Yeung Gwong Girl" Leanne Ho Si Yin. Two nights ago Evelyn was obviously prepared. When asked about the break up, she said, "We broke up several months ago, we split because we had an understanding. We have been great friends. Relationship is personal and I don't have to answer to anyone. (He is linked to Ho Si Yin?) That is their personal business, even if I know I am not at liberty to talk about it, not to mention I don't know. (Would it affect your relationship with her?) No, why don't you ask if she affected my relationship with Tom. (Are you broken up?) So he can be with anyone and I am fine with it. (Do you accept them as a couple?) You should ask them, maybe one day I would be with his good friend! (Would you ask Ho Si Yin to confirm?) I haven't run into anyone good, I hope to run into a good guy who is talented and has the same interests as I do. Treating me well is secondary, the most important is we are compatible." She also said that she worked with Ho Si Yin before, but she has not seen her in a long time.

Although Evelyn claimed that she was single, she was rumored to be a pair with local artist Siu Hak and a Taiwan hunk. Evelyn said, "I don't have a boyfriend, if this keeps up I really would have no suitor!" She reiterated that she had no chance to develop with those two, because Siu Hak is much older than her and married and the Taiwan model was younger than her.
